Ingredients
Method
To make the dough. Mix together until crumbly:
- All purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and lard.
- Add the milk.
- Mix by hand or with a mixing spoon until it 'comes together like pie crust dough'.
- Alternatively, use your favorite pastry crust recipe.
Assemble
- Roll out the dough into approximately 1/4 inch thick rectangle
- Spread generously with the softened butter then brown sugar.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Then add 3-4 cups finely chopped apples.
Beginning at the long side, roll up the dough with all the layers like a cinnamon roll. Cut into 2" slices. Layer these slices into a 9x13 pan.
Syrup
- In a heavy bottom pan, cook together all of the syrup ingredients for 5-8 minutes.
- Pour syrup over the rollups and bake for 45-55 minutes or until slightly browned over top.
