Homestead Ice cream

On warm afternoons when the chores are done and the kids are running barefoot through the yard, there’s nothing better than a scoop of homemade ice cream. Around here, we keep it simple—fresh cream, real sugar, and just a few wholesome ingredients come together to make something truly special. This is one of those recipes that slows life down in the best way. It’s a sweet reward for a day well spent and a reminder that the best things in life are often the simplest.

Homestead Ice Cream

Serves 8-10

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups heavy, fresh cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tbs your best vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Optional Variations
Coffee Ice-cream
  • 1 tbs coffee dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water
Chocolate Ice-cream
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa dissolved in 1/2 cup hot water
Fruit Flavored Ice-cream
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups finely chopped fresh fruit or canned and drained fruit

Method
 

  1. Mix cream, milk, sugar, yolks, vanilla, and salt with a stock blender or blender until sugar is dissolved.
  2. If making coffee or chocolate variation, add those ingredients to mixture before you add it to churn.
  3. Pour into ice-cream machine and churn until it is desired consistency.
  4. If making fruit variation, add when ice cream is all but done churning. Churn for a few minutes after adding fruit.
