These buttery sourdough crackers are a crisp, savory snack that’s as easy to make as it is to enjoy. These are a great way to dip your toe into making your own snacks from scratch. With just a few simple ingredients and minimal effort, they bake up golden and flavorful—perfect for using up extra sourdough starter. They’re always a crowd-pleaser, whether served at a gathering, packed in lunches, or simply enjoyed fresh from the oven. Switch it up by adding different seasonings!
Homemade and wholesome, they quickly become a favorite in any kitchen – especially with kids!

Buttery Sourdough Crackers
Ingredients
- ¾ cup active sourdough stirred down or ¾ cup discard
- 3 TBS. melted butter.
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1-2 TBS. of your favorite herb or seasoning (OPTIONAL)
- 1 tsp of trivia or your favorite sweetener (OPTIONAL)
Instructions
- Melt the butter and add to sourdough and stir together with the salt.
- Spread thin onto a cookie sheet that is lined parchment paper using a spatula. Pay attention to spreading the dough evenly so that all crackers are the same crispiness.
- 1 recipe should spread out over a 13x16” parchment paper or the equivalent.
- Bake at 350F for 10 minutes then remove from oven and score the crackers (I use a pizza cutter).
- Return to oven for 20-25 minutes more and remove when crackers are slightly golden in color.
- While the crackers are still hot I put them into a bowl and toss with: a bit of salt and seasoning of choice. This gives a pleasing savory rush to the tastebuds with each bite!
Notes
My family wasn’t crazy over the tart flavor of the sourdough crackers, the sweetener cut that tart flavor and the crackers where a hit. If your family doesn’t mind the tart flavor of sourdough you might not need to add the sweetener.
PS: more butter gave a flakier cracker!
